Leicester is celebrated for its diversity and multiculturalism but what does this really mean?
Leicester Human Rights Arts and Film Festival in association with CivicLeicester, along with the University of Leicester’s Unit for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement (DICE) and The Race Equality Centre (TREC) are holding the Leicester: Diversity and The City Event on Thursday 07 December from 6:30pm to 9pm.
The event is free to attend and is being held at Westcotes Library on Narborough Road, Leicester LE3 0BQ because of how the road has been identified as the most diverse street in Britain.
Chaired by Dr Chryso Hadjidemetriou FHEA, a Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Leicester. A range of speakers will tackle questions such as:
- What are the demographics like in Leicester? How do they compare with national figures?
- What do the demographics say about poverty, (in)equality, access (or barriers) to services, (un)employment, opportunities (or the lack of opportunities), the criminal justice system and other systems?
- Do key institutions’ employment patterns reflect the city’s demographics? If not, why is this?
