Following a Gypsy, traveller and Roma Leicester conference in 2017 health needs of this community were discussed with the organiser and it was identified that there a number of health inequalities in this ethnic minority community. An initial exploratory focus group was set with the support of GATE in January 2018 asking the following: What are the most important health issues to your community? What initiatives would you like to see- its main focus? For instance, this might be to increase access to physical activity opportunities, improve access to services, information, education Why do you think this is important? the first step to arrange an engagement event to explore the health priorities of the GATE community event organised for 25/1/2018. health needs identified led to a funding bid submitted to PPI wellcome trust via Marie Nugent for support with future events. Bid successful. 14/4/18 ladies walking group. 24/4/18 Lunch club – 7 participants1.5.18 yoga session attended by 6 ladies. 3 may 18 chill out bus at leisure centre in lutterworth for younger G&T – 14 attended. ND and BC submitted grant application of £96k to the ISSF public engagement fund. Dec 18 grant application rejected.
