The NIHR CRN East Midlands and the Centre are working together on a project to understand more about attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccine research amongst people from ethnic minority and vulnerable communities.
Initial work has included a series of focus groups and interviews to understand more about the potential barriers to participation in vaccine research. A summary report analysing responses and exploring differences in attitudes across different communities can be found here.
The findings outlined in this report are being used to develop a survey, which will be distributed across the East Midlands region. This survey aims to build on the initial responses and provide more people from BAME communities with an opportunity to share their attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccine research.
At the conclusion of the survey the responses will be analysed in detail, with the key themes and messages used to create communications content designed to encourage greater participation in vaccine research. This is an important area of work which seeks to ensure that COVID vaccine trials are inclusive of all of the communities within our region.
