Following on from the success of the launch event on 10 March 2018 in collaboration with the Centre, Prostate Cancer UK and PROSTaid, the first ‘Play Domino, Talk Prostate’ session took place 17 April 2018 at the West Indian Senior Citizens Project, Leicester.
The session took place with 16 males and even 1 female in attendance, and included a number of men sharing their personal experiences of having enlarged prostate, as well as prostate cancer and treatment.
Latest figures from Prostate Cancer UK revealed that in the UK, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, however, this is double for black men who have 1 in 4 chance of being diagnosed in their lifetime.
In keeping with the theme of ‘Play Domino, Talk Prostate’, the group decided to be named ‘Double Six’. Further sessions will take place every Tuesday from 4pm onwards at the West Indian Senior Citizens Projects, 35 Lincoln Street, Leicester LE2 0JU aimed at Black African Caribbean men (all welcome). The sessions will help provide support for men diagnosed with prostate cancer and in a similar situation to themselves whilst promoting awareness in a fun and safe environment. Future sessions will also include a guest speaker.
