The Centre for Ethnic Health Research (CEHR), based in Leicester—one of the most multicultural cities in the UK—has established a national reputation for leading applied health research aimed at addressing health inequalities. This is accomplished through meaningful engagement and collaboration with ethnic minority communities. Our team challenge the traditional norms of engagement and research by developing alternative methodologies to address equality, diversity and inclusion within research delivery and improve methods of communication and dissemination of research to underserved communities.  Since its inception, the CEHR has experienced significant growth, becoming a recognised leader in advancing research on multiple long-term conditions (MLTC) and health inequalities.

The CEHR team brings a broad range of expertise, enabling it to deliver a variety of activities. These include academic and community research, public involvement, strategic development, policy commissions, and evidence reviews and resources development and training to address underrepresentation in research. The detailed scope of the CEHR’s portfolio of work is outlined in our annual reports.

The Centre’s awareness and reputation continue to expand, with service requests for collaborative support and engagement with underserved groups increasing each year. These requests have come from a range of stakeholders and locations, to include industry partners, academics, NHS Trusts and the charitable sector. Between 2021 and the present, a total of 727 external support requests have been received.
