The Centre for Ethnic Health Research was established in 2016. Funding was provided by the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN), Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CCG), CLAHRC and the University of Leicester (UoL).
We have a number of community-based research staff who engage with seldom heard communities and inspire community-led research. We design and deliver resources and alternative methodologies that are informed and led by communities who are ‘not reached’ by some clinicians and researchers. These methods and our involvement allow us to promote culturally-sensitive resources and raise awareness of community engagement and collaboration across research and healthcare delivery.
We deliver research with ethnic minority groups, host a Community Partners’ Panels, provide engagement and competency training and collaborate with researchers, universities and organisations to widen participation with seldom heard groups.
We support individuals and organisations in planning and undertaking research and healthcare delivery involving and understanding ethnic minority communities and seldom heard communities.
Our Aims
- Collaborate with researchers, universities and community organisations to increase participation from seldom heard groups.
- Develop alternative methods of research engagement.
- Deliver training programmes to promote effective engagement and cultural competency.
- Increase and widen the involvement and representation of ethnic minority communities and seldom heard populations in research activities conducted throughout the University of Leicester.
